Mainnet is the live network where a coin has real value and real transactions settle. It is the opposite of testnet, which is for testing with valueless coins.
Mainnet and testnet addresses usually look different: Pearl mainnet addresses start with prl1 and testnet ones with tprl1. You mine and get paid on mainnet.
